1. Introduction

The Sounds & Images app is a digital art app designed and built to display animated abstract imagery.

This documentation is aimed at describing the additional functionality that sits around the core animated display screen.

2. The Core Screen

The core screen is the display of images that are animated and appears when the app is run. When the app is started the musical piece, Sounds for Small Spaces, is started. This piece by Kevin Buckland, is currently the first and default piece on the app. There are currently two pieces on the app, the second being Mëcanisme D'Horlage. The playing of Sounds for Small Spaces is played together with an abstract display that is displayed on the Android device's display screen.

3. The Menu

On the top right hand side of the screen are the three dots of the main menu. Touching the screen at this point opens up the menu which can be seen in the display on the left.

The first menu item is the Pieces option which opens up to the menu shown in the previous section. There are currently two items on this menu, Sounds for Small Spaces and Mëcanisme D'Horlage.

There then follows the Stop option which when pressed results in the end of the visual display and the associated music. A blank screen is displayed.

The final menu entry is the Misc entry which when pressed opens up to display the items shown in the screen on the right. This is described in the following section.

4. The Log Screen, Clear Log and Version Info Menu Items

The log screen will display errors and useful information which might include warnings. It should be the first place to look when unexpected issues arise within the app. Changes to the data are recorded in the log file.

The log entries can be cleared down by pressing the “CLEAR LOG” entry that sits within the MISC sub-menu. This is an event that should not be required often.

The version dialog display is accessed from the main menu by pressing the “VERSION INFO” menu option. The resulting display is shown on the right and will display the current version number plus my name, e-mail address and web site.
